Today’s recipe – Orange Creamsicle Mini Shakes was not my original intent. These were suppose to be made into popsicles… And of course there is a story to go along with it – I was super excited to try my popsicle molds again and make one of my favorite childhood summer treats BUT I wanted to give it a little punch with adding some alcohol. I thought if I added just a little bit that I would not have a problem. So I put the ingredients in the blender, mixed it up and poured into my molds. Well, just then the DIY Guy walked by and said “those won’t freeze good”. I said “of course they will!” So I patiently waited….
Many, many hours later, I took them out of the freezer and they were really firm…. ha, I was right but as soon as these came out, they started melting like crazy and of course, again, at that point he walked by. He knew I was pretty disappointed, just looked at me and didn’t say a word. Smart guy. So I thought, well, maybe I can put what I have back in the blender and make milk shakes. Yep, that worked! No waste and the shakes were really good!
- 1 1/2 cups vanilla ice cream
- 3 tablespoons orange juice
- 1 tablespoon vodka*
- 1 tablesoon triple sec or other orange liqueur
- Whipped cream for garnish
- Sprinkles for fun
- Combine all ingredients into blender and process until smooth
- Pour into glasses
- Garnish with whipped cream and sprinkles if desired
*NOTE: you can make these non-alcoholic but leaving out the vodka and triple sec and add a bit more OJ if desired
So today’s lesson is – your husband or significant other MAY be right sometimes, and when life gives you melty popsicles turn them into milk shakes!
