Italian Style Skillet Dinner

Italian Style Skillet Dinner #EatHealthy15 | Cooking on the Front Burner

Buongiorno!  I have fond memories of waking up at my grandmother's house and hearing those words!  She spoke perfect English but migrated to the states in the 1930's when she only spoke Italian.  I used to love to listen to her talk to my mom, they would start in English and drift to Italian and back to English.  I was always lost in translation!  This lower calorie dish called Petti di Pollo con Verdure e Riso or as us non-Italian readers would call it, Breast of Chicken with Vegetables and Rice, reminded me of her.

Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix

Homemade Cocoa Mix | Cooking on the Front Burner

I'm taking a little break from the healthier options I've been sharing lately to bring you this Homemade Cocoa Mix.  Perhaps today the kiddos are home from school for Martin Luther King day, playing outside (well at least for my northern friends) and will need to warm up.   Making your own mix is easy to do and this one is kicked up a notch with finely ground white chocolate.

Yum - I'm excited to share this new smoothie recipe with you.  Smoothies are all the rage right now and in all seriousness, they are so refreshing and so good for you.  I'm a tropical flavor girl so I decided to combine two of my favorite ingredients - pineapple and mandarin oranges.  Then I was trying to think of a clever name but nothing came to mind.  So you are stuck with what it is - a Pineapple Orange Smoothie!  (if you come up with a catchy name, let me know)

Best of the Weekend!

Stay Connected with Cooking on the Front Burner

TGIF!  So glad the weekend is here.  This past week really flew by and believe it or not our party snuck up on me.  I spent the day packing away the Christmas decorations, cleaning the house and trying to get back to normal... then it dawned on me that I hadn't written my party post.  I definitely need to get back in the groove.... but now the house is taken care of.  So glad!

Homemade Honey Granola

Homemade Honey Granola | Cooking on the Front Burner

Happy New Year!  Let's start out 2015 with this first recipe being on the healthier side.  I'm not sure about you but I'm ready to do some detoxing from the goodies, rich food and sweets from the holidays.  I don't think I overdid it, but I sure enjoyed all the season had to offer.  Now, I'm ready to get back to some healthier eating and hitting the gym!

Best of the Weekend 2015!

Stay Connected with Cooking on the Front Burner

5-4-3-2-1 Happy New Year folks! Time to kick off a new year with us and glad to have you here.  Are you a resolution person? Eat better, exercise, etc?  Ya, well, I'm not so much.  I  t-r-y to do these things all year long.  Probably the one thing I love to do is organize for the new year - once we get the decorations put away (which I haven't yet!), I like to tackle the closets and declutter.  If I had to pick one resolution, it would be less is more... meaning I need to stop buying 'stuff.'  After clearing out my dad's house this past year, I realized we really don't need to accumulate more things.  (I'm sure my kids will thank me some day!)
