Happy Halloween!  This week we hosted a work party for the DIY Guy's co-workers.  Since we were close to Halloween, I thought it would be appropriate to make it festive.  So today I'm sharing an adult martini that is all treat and no trick along with some Halloween inspired food.  There is still plenty of time to prepare for tomorrow.  Enjoy!

Butternut Squash Orzo Salad

The holidays are coming, and I'm pretty sure I'll be indulging a bit more into sweets and other higher calorie food.  I'll be trying to balance it out with some healthier foods and that is where this Butternut Squash Orzo Salad with Maple Vinaigrette comes into play.
It's a light and refreshing salad, perfect for lunch or as a side dish.  Butternut squash is available right now, so it's fun to come up with new recipes for the palate!  What's not to love about a healthier salad with fresh spinach, orzo, craisins, roasted squash, tangy gorgonzola and a creamy maple vinaigrette dressing?
This pasta salad recipe is quickly becoming one of my fall favorites.

Recently I made pumpkin gnocchi and had a bit of pumpkin left over.  I put the small amount in the refrigerator with the mindset that it would probably remain there until it got fuzzy and I had to throw it away (you can probably relate, right?).  But as I started looking around in my pantry and cupboards, I got an idea of making energy bites.  I had enough different ingredients that I thought would work, and lo and behold, this Pumpkin Energy Bite was created.

I'm super excited that it is the 12th of the month so we can share with you what the #12bloggers have been up to with this month's ingredient of squash (think pumpkin, butternut, etc).  Whether it be sweet or savory you desire, we have you covered with some fantastic recipes!  Being Italian you would think I would have made gnocchis before. Sure, I've had some but have never given them a try.  So this month I brought to the show these Pumpkin Gnocchi in a Brown Butter Sauce topped with crispy sage. Perfect for the fall or any time!

What's your thoughts on donuts?  Do you like baked or fried?  Regular size or mini? Are you a Kripsy Kreme kind of person or Dunkin Donuts?  Or maybe you have a favorite local brand to enjoy.  Donuts have been one of favorite things to eat and my all time favorite is just a plain glazed donut that is light and airy on the inside with the right amount of sugary glaze.  So you may have noticed that this isn't one of those!  Today I'm branching out with this spiced donut with the best maple glaze.  In fact, I think the glaze is the best part.  It's all about that bass glaze... :)

Pink for a Cure - Cream Puffs

Yes, it's fall and we all have apples and pumpkins on our minds but today some bloggers are taking a break from fall recipes to participate in #cookingforacure and bringing awareness to October's Breast Cancer Awareness month.  So in honor of this great cause, pink food all around including these cream puffs with strawberry mousse.

I was glad to be asked to participate this year and help get the word out about what you can do to help yourself and bring awareness to this disease.  One in eight women are affected each year and that is a high number - I'm sure many of us have been affected by friends or family that may have been diagnosed.  Early detection is key by doing monthly self examines and yearly check-ups.  If it is caught in the early stages, the survival rate is 98%!  And that is a high number of good news!
