Apple Walnut Cake

Apple Walnut Cake | Cooking on the Front Burner

Well, we are off to another start of a week.  I don't know about you but the weekend went really fast.  I was able to spend time with friends including seeing a play on Thursday night called the Heidi Chronicles in Minneapolis.  It was my belated birthday event with two of my close friends, then caught up with another friend Friday night and Saturday went out with the DIY Guy's fishing buddy and his wife for an "appetizer only" dinner at a local bar and grill.  Afterwards we went back to their place for this Apple Walnut Cake (see my story was going somewhere!)

Best of the Weekend and Happy Halloween!

Stay Connected with Cooking on the Front Burner

Happy TGIF!  Hope you had a good week and an even better upcoming weekend!  We are getting some Indian summer weather so the DIY Guy and his buddy are heading on the Mississippi tomorrow to do some last minute fishing.  He needs to do some more providing for the family!  On Christmas Eve we do the Feast of the Seven fishes and need some walleye on our menu.

It's still apple picking season here at our homestead and luckily I got a request from the DIY Guy's co-workers for an apple treat.  I could have made a pie or maybe some apple crisp, but this Caramel Apple Oatmeal Crumb Bars recipe I found sounded great for bring-your-wife's-dessert-to-work-day!

The best creamy risotto made with apples, bacon and a hint of thyme.

It's apple season around our yard (only one tree and about 200+ Regent apples!) and I been asked by the DIY Guy to start using them up.  We've made crisps and pies but I really wanted to try them in a savory recipe.  Risotto happens to be one of my favorite side dishes.  I use to be intimidated by the directions and all that stirring, but the time goes quick and then you are left with this creamy and flavorful dish - the perfect comfort food!

Pumpkin Spice Popcorn

Pumpkin Spice Popcorn |Cooking on the Front Burner

I have a confession, I'm kind of addicted to popcorn.  Even a whiff of it makes me want to have a bowl.  I'm normally just a plain jane person (salt and maybe a little butter) but today I'm sharing a version that is perfect for fall and will satisfy your sweet tooth - Pumpkin Spice Popcorn.  Bonus it is drizzled with white chocolate!

Best of the Weekend and Game Day Food

Stay Connected with Cooking on the Front Burner

Welcome to the first Friday in October and Best of the Weekend!  Let me just say it feels really good to be back home and blogging.  Last week at this time I was in NY and was saying goodbye to my dad.  Earlier that week we had moved him to a senior apartment and then spent all week getting his house ready to put on the market.  I'm not sure of any of you have had to deal with an elderly parent but it is physically and emotionally draining.  The good news he is in a better living situation and seems to be adjusting well...whew!
