Sweet and Salty Bark

Today's a first for me.  I've never made a bark recipe and now I don't know what I was waiting for!  Not only is this so simple - 4 ingredients - but from start to taking a bite is about 30 minutes.  While I opted to go with autumn type flavors, the sky is the limit on what you can add to make it your own.

We are getting into the final countdown before turkey day.  Are you ready???  I used to always host Thanksgiving with just our immediate family and made everything - it took me a few years to figure out how to make good gravy but other than that I had it down to a science to what time what goes in with my list (I'm such a list person!)  The last couple of years though we have been invited to our daughter's in Minneapolis and her and her husband have taken over making most of the food.  I bring pumpkin soup and a pumpkin pie.  I like it!  Then if I'm lucky I can convince the DIY GUY to stop at Crate & Barrel on Friday before we head home....

One of my favorite things to do on my work break is to walk to Barnes & Noble.  It is housed in a historic building downtown that used to be a movie theater - it is just so cool looking with the domed high ceilings with some twinkle lights and a fun place to walk around to look at books, magazines and maybe get a Starbucks coffee.  So where I am going with this is I tend to check out the latest food magazines from time to time and the new one from Cuisine Holiday caught my eye with desserts and cookies.  I just bought it with no real plan but then it turned out I needed a dessert for Saturday night so I tried this Pumpkin Spice Cake.

Welcome to Best of the Weekend!  A little announcement first, tonight is Claire's last party with us {sniff} If you've been a BOTW party goer since day one, you'll know that Claire started this over a year and a half ago.  She's brought the rest of us together (and we still will continue every Friday - same bat time, same bat station!).  While we will miss tremendously, we know how busy life gets and choices we all have to make.  Thanks Claire for everything and our best to you! Oh and it's not a real goodbye - I know where to find you!!

Well, we still have about a bushel full of apples that I've been trying to use up - I've made pies, apple cake, crisps, risotto and for today these Apple Hand Pies!  I mean what's a girl to do with all these fresh apples.  I think we loaded up our family and friends as much as they were able to use, so now we are coming into the home stretch and I really don't want to throw any away.
