Best of the Weekend and Tasty Beverages

Stay Connected with Cooking on the Front Burner

Welcome to Best of the Weekend!  Wow, it is kind of sad that the summer is coming to an end - where did the time go!  I hope you had a great summer and will be enjoying the Labor Day weekend.  We have the kids coming home and will be going to our friend's annual clambake.  I still need to come up with a dessert and hopefully as you are reading this I have it made!  I think this might be the 20th year we have attended - it is so much fun.  Stop back next week to see what I made.

Roasted Beet, Quinoa and Arugula Salad | Cooking on the Front Burner #sidedish

I'm pretty excited to share this salad with you today and I hope you are as wowed as I am with it.  It's one that a local restaurant has on their menu and after having it twice this past month, I was determined to make it at home.  I fell in love with the flavors, textures and of course the ingredients.

Back to baking this week with these Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Cookies.   I had a craving for some PB cookies and thought I would look through my mom's handwritten cookbooks to find her recipe.  I searched through the stash of notebooks I had but no luck!

So now I'm not sure if her recipe came from a cookbook or one she didn't happen to write down.  After some searching, I came across this recipe that seemed like a winner to me and it was!

Best of the Weekend and Cool Summer Salads

Stay Connected with Cooking on the Front Burner

Welcome to Best of the Weekend!  I for one am glad this week is coming to an end - remember last week when I said we had NO plans and that I wanted to go to see the Hundred Foot Journey?  Well, my weekend was interrupted with some virus thing I picked up and have been pretty much down and out the entire week.  Major bummer!  But this weekend we have plans to head to our friend's cabin in northern MN - just some R&R time and that sounds really good to me.

Cucumber Mint Mojito

Cool down with this Cucumber Mojito!

Almost time for TGIF and this week I have a refreshing tasty beverage that is sure to be a hit with the adult crowd.  This Cucumber Mint Mojito is perfect for summer and you may even be growing some of the ingredients in your garden (no - not the rum silly!)  Just picture yourself sitting on your deck or by a pool with this cool drink in your hand!

Zucchini Fritters

Use up your extra zucchini with these fritters - so good!

The zucchini are coming, the zucchini are coming!  It's that time of year where that ONE plant you have in your garden is exploding with lots of veggies and you need something to do with them!  That's where this recipe of Zucchini Fritters will help you out.  Yep you can make bread, muffins or even a vegetarian lasagna but this side dish is so easy to do and one of my favorite ways to enjoy the mass producing veggie!

Welcome to Best of the Weekend!  Another week and another time to see what you have been up to!  Is it just me or is time just whizzing by?  It's Monday then it's Friday with the weekends a blur!  This is one of the rare weekends we have no plans... nothing on the calendar.  Would I really would like to do - hint hint DIY Guy - is go see the movie The Hundred Foot Journey (of course it has to do with food!)  I heard it was great - stop by next week so see if I went.

Cannellini Bean Dip

Cannellini Bean Dip | Cooking on the Front Burner

Move over hummus there's a new kid dip in town!  I'm excited on a couple levels - first I'm happy to have a new recipe today - summer has been crazy and haven't had as much time to cook or shoot photos and second this Cannellini Bean Dip is so easy to make and was a hit at a recent dinner party we had.  I don't like hummus but I do like this - go figure!

A Trip to the Farmer's Market

Finally!  I made it to our local Farmer's Market this past weekend.  Either we have been out of town, busy around the house, or I have to admit, I've wanted to sleep in on Saturdays...  But this weekend I actually set my alarm, got dressed, made some coffee and away I went.  It was a beautiful day and the local growers were out in full force with their goods.  I brought the camera along to snap some shots and below I'm sharing some of those pictures plus some recipes that are ready for 'picking'!

Best of the Weekend and Back to School Snacks

Stay Connected with Cooking on the Front Burner

What a whirlwind of a week and I'm so glad the weekend is here!  Just coming off a week's vacation which was great but now I need a vacation from my vacation.  Do you know what I mean? Ever feel that way??  Going back to my hometown in upstate NY is a foodie delight!  We ate, at not one but two Italian restaurants.  There is nothing like getting a plate of 'homemades' and a slice of pizza pie!  Then we traveled to the DIY Guy's folks in PA and went to NJ for clams and lobster... oh yea, the diet starts now!

Enough about me - so glad you are here!  I would be curious to what your hometown is know for food-wise.  Leave me a comment - who knows we may be roaming around the states in the coming years!

You Say It's Your Birthday!

Happy Birthday to me!  Since we just got home from a week's vacation yesterday- driving over 2,500 miles in 7 days and visits to my brother's plus an Indians game in Cleveland, my dad's in upstate NY, and John's folks in PA, I've got nothing new for ya! Today's post ran about a month ago and so since it is my birthday today (and 2 days ago it was the DIY Guy's) I'm running this post again - it might be new to some of you and there sure are some tasty treats!!

Peach and Brie Grilled Flatbread

Peach and Brie Grilled Flatbread | Cooking on the Front Burner

If you are looking for a different type of appetizer to serve your guests, be sure to give this Peach and Brie Grilled Flatbread a try.  My 'guest' for the night was The DIY Guy aka the official taste tester.  A couple weeks ago I came home with a bunch of fresh peaches - I was up for trying some different recipes and he is not one to turn down food!  We are a good team like that!

Best of the Weekend and Chocolate Treats!

Stay Connected with Cooking on the Front Burner

Welcome to Best of the Weekend - today I'm just being short and sweet as I'm having a little R&R this week. As you are reading this I hope to be sitting at one of my favorite Italian restaurants in my hometown eating the best thin crust pizza pie!!!  I need my fix when we go back east.  If you follow me on Instagram, you might be seeing some of the food we will be eating!
