Friday Night Pizza
>Printable Dough Recipe
The weather has been a bit cooler lately - it's still summer but we can turn off the A/C for a bit and enjoy some fresh air. So I thought I would heat up the oven (cuz this cooks at 500 degrees!) and make some homemade pizza. Though this is sooooo frustrating, our smoke alarm goes off every time I make pizza. And it's not easy to turn it off - first the battery has to come out then it needs to be turned off at the breaker box - ugh, it is a pain! I'm sure the neighbors think I'm burning down the house.
I really love to make my own dough and have found using 00 flour gives it a nice texture. I would like to make my own sauce as well but I haven't had time to work on that one (hint hint readers!). My dough recipe makes two thin crust pizzas. I also use a fresh'er' type mozzarella that I slice and place on the toppings.
I also think the key is using a pizza stone and letting it heat at 500 for at least 30 minutes. Then when you slide your pizza on it, it starts cooking right away and is done in about 13-14 minutes. The crust gets so crispy, just like at a pizzeria!
I made the DIY Guy's favorite - Italian sausage, green peppers and onions (that is pre-cooked).
I actually managed to get the pizza in a round shape.... sometimes they turn into squares. There is a bit leftover so I know what I'm having for lunch since John will be gone for the day... unless he eats it for breakfast, which he could :-)
