The Making of the Mirror

This DIY project turned into a DIY times 2!  I guess I should have known better.  Luckily Mr. John really liked the looks of the mirror and was willing to help (and I'm guessing he didn't want me around his power tools in the man tool cave).  We had a date morning here

We picked out our supplies

Well, not exactly a "supply" but the HD knows how to treat their customers right!
After coming home we got started

I worked on cleaning the mirrors

I painted

We nailed in decorative tacks

After drying, we used liquid nails to glue the mirrors

A couple days later, we hung it up

Total cost $98
- 20 8x8 mirrors - $50
- wood, glue - $48

Pottery Barn's version $599
I'm happy with ours and it looks great on the mantle....
Hmmmmm... wonder what we can work on next... I'll be checking out Pinterest later!

Chocolate Souffle Cake

We like our desserts here!  And it usually involves chocolate...  I found this recipe in the Betty Crocker Best-Loved Christmas recipes.  (recipe found here)  I hope you give it a try!

The original recipe called for a crushed peppermint topping but we aren't a fan of that so I substituted raspberries and also made some raspberry topping by combining some seedless jam, a little orange juice and some Chambord (best to heat jam a bit to make it more liquid).  Also drizzled some hot fudge sauce. Enjoy!

Hola Amigos!

¿Cómo estás? ¿Qué pasa?

We are back from our 7 day sun and fun filled vacation!   It was muy bien... every day was sunny and 80!  I took lots of pictures (about 400!) and here are a few of what we ate and sampled...

First stop for tasty beverages - cerveza and salsa

Chicken Enchiladas for lunch
Sea Bass for Mr. John's first dinner

Day 2 - game watching (in Spanish!)

"Diet" Coke

Our hotel grew a lot of their own herbs

Shrimp Scampi - extremely fresh!

Red Snapper for Mr. John

Lunch at a mountain restaurant - what they served and below what we chose
This restaurant had amazing food and again very fresh!

A tequila distillery was next to the restaurant

Guacamole freshly made in front of us at Pipi's

Chicken Fajitas

Fried Ice Cream for dessert

Last night at Porto Bello's restaurant at the Marina - antipasto

Ceasar Salad
Mr. John had linguine with seafood
Breakfast for Mr. John called "Divorced Eggs" (2 different sauces)

We enjoyed our vacation!  Nice area of Mexico - very friendly people and felt very safe... until next time - adios!

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...

Copy cat Pottery Barn Mirror

... who's the craftiest of the them all? ha!  Are you a member of Pinterest?  I "pinned" this project from a website. I was intrigued - it looked so cool and thought I would try it.  I ran to Hobby Lobby and bought all their 8x8 mirrors that had in stock at half price (I needed 20).  Of course when it came to getting the "manly" stuff - wood and glue, I enlisted the help of Mr. John.  He was a good sport about it all and helped quite a bit!  Today just a quick look at the final project but soon a step by step (when we get back from vacation)  Check back next week!

I love this!
